About Equaly/xx.ai

Equaly/xx.ai is a compensation clarity platform built for HR managers, reward teams, and talent professionals across Europe. We aggregate official salary data from government statistics agencies and help you create defensible pay ranges — role by role, country by country.

Unlike traditional salary tools that rely on self-reported data, Equaly/xx.ai exclusively uses official European open data sources — CBS, Eurostat, SCB, Destatis, and others — providing accurate, legally defensible benchmarks aligned with the EU Pay Transparency Directive 2023/970.

Methodology

  1. Classification Mapping
We map ISCO occupational codes to ESCO job classifications, and ESCO to NACE industry sectors, providing a standardized framework for cross-country and cross-sector comparisons.
  2. Data Collection & Validation
Salary data is collected via official API endpoints using rate-limited, respectful access patterns. All data is validated for completeness and outliers are identified using interquartile range (IQR) methodology.
  3. Currency Conversion
All salaries are converted to Euro using quarterly exchange rates from the European Central Bank, ensuring precise temporal alignment of international comparisons.
  4. Statistical Analysis
For each occupation-sector-country combination, we calculate key percentiles (10th, 50th, 90th) to provide a comprehensive view of salary distributions beyond simple averages.
  5. Source Weighting
When multiple data sources are available for the same occupation-sector-country, we apply sample-size weighting to ensure that larger, more representative datasets have proportionally greater influence on the final results.

Data freshness is ensured by only using information collected within the last 90 days. All results include confidence indicators based on sample size and mapping quality.

Classification Systems

ESCO is the European multilingual classification of Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations. It identifies and categorizes skills, competences, qualifications and occupations relevant for the EU labor market.

Our tool uses ESCO occupation codes as the primary classification system, providing standardization across different European data sources.

ISCO is an International Labour Organization (ILO) classification structure for organizing information on labor and jobs. It is part of the international family of economic and social classifications.

Many official statistics use ISCO codes, which our tool maps to ESCO occupations with confidence scores to ensure accurate data integration.

NACE is the European statistical classification of economic activities. It groups organizations according to their business activities for compiling and presenting statistical data.

Our tool uses NACE codes to segment salary data by industry sector, allowing for more precise comparisons within specific business domains.
